MORRISTOWN – By the time the exceptionally busy Morristown High School sports slate was complete, it turned out to be a pretty good night for the Colonials athletic program.
In boys fencing action, Morristown defeated Group I school Butler by a 16-11 count. A 7-2 whitewashing of the Bulldogs in the Sabre weapon events put Morristown over the top. Danny Ribaudo, Alex Nulman, Richard Thomas, Jack Maler, and Greg Reisch all recorded 5-0 shutout victories for the Maroon & White.
For starters, Bill Connolly’s boys basketball team notched a 52-38 victory over Sparta on home court to move to 2-0. Guard Luke Haralampoudis led the way for Morristown with 15 points, while Ashton Pardie chipped in 14 for the winners.
In the girls game up in Sussex County, the Colonials also improved to 2-0 with a 49-34 victory over the Spartans. In that one, Morristown used a big third quarter to turn a slim, three-point lead into a 40-26 advantage after three quarters.
The only slip up of the night came from the MHS hockey team, which dropped a 4-0 decision to St. Joe’s of Montvale at the Ice Vault in Wayne. Derek Peck stopped 17 shots for the Colonials, but the defending state champions’ playoffs are continuing to dim with a 1-6-1 record.
