MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Morristown Colonials capitalized on their chances to defeat the Morris Knolls Golden Eagles. 4-1 at the Mennen Sports Arena.
Morristown got it going early on with a goal by Jakob DeFares, as he was left alone in front, and was able to slide the puck under Golden Eagles goalie Jonathan Cavallone for a 1-0 lead.
It was in the second period, Morristown extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal when the puck deflected over the head of Cavallone off a shot from Christian Rodriguez, and went into the net.
Morristown goalie Evan Szary made an impressive two-on-one save off Daniel Cangelosi, which could have easily gotten Morris Knolls back in it. The puck then got past the blocker of Szary to pull the Golden Eagles back within one.
Another goal from the Colonials with 51.2 seconds remaining put Morris Knolls in a 3-1 hole heading into the third period.
With 5:23 remaining, Morristown defensemen Kyle Beyer shot the puck down the ice from his own zone so he and his teammates could make a line-change. The shot down ice bounced between the blocker and leg pad of the Golden Eagles goalie and into the back of the net.
That just about put the game on ice, as Morristown then cruised to the ‘victory’ over Morris Knolls.
