MORRISTOWN, NJ - August signals the winding down of summer and the gearing up of high school sports. Concussions are tramatic brain injuries that alter the way the brain functions, according to the Mayo Clinic. In today's highly competitive athletic arena, high school athletes and parents should be aware of the dangers, signs and symptoms of a sports related concussion.
Goryeb Children's Hospital announced that a Sports Concussion Seminar will be held on Thursday August 25 from 6pm - 7pm at Newton Medical Center in Sparta.
Team Physicians for Pope John High School, Dr Ramon Pegisan and Dr. Dean Padavan will speak with coaches, parents and student-athletes on what they need to know about concussions.The presentation will cover what is a concussion, how a concussion is diagnosed, what the symptoms are, when to resume play and how to stay healthy and safe in sports.
