MORRISTOWN, NJ –  Juvenile Detention Officer Katria Thorne-Stevenson pled guilty to using excessive force during the course of duty, stated Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Morris County Department of Human Services Director Jennifer Carpinteri. On November 5, 2016, an investigation revealed that Thorne-Stevenson struck a juvenile in the face with a closed fist, said authorities.

The altercation occurred when Thorne-Stevenson was attempting to physically restrain the juvenile. The juvenile was handcuffed at the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities concluded that there was no justifiable need for force to be used at that point.

Authorities stated that the juvenile has a bruise and swelling to her lip as a result of the incident.
