TRENTON, NJ -- The NJ Assembly is considering legislation that would prohibit Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests from use in student honors placement for three years. Lawmakers are also considering a measure to prohibit school systems from giving standardized tests to students in kindergarten through second grade. Last week, the Assembly's Education Committee passed bills that address the PARCC exam implementation in the state.

The controversial PARCC exam was designed by Pearson, a for-profit corporation and was developed to assess students' math and English skills across different school districts and states. New Jersey is implementing the test to public school students in grades three to 11.

Parents can make their views known to The Study Commission on the Use of Student Assessments in New Jersey, a nine-member body charged with presenting recommendations to Governor Chris Christie regarding the quality and effectiveness of student testing. The Commission will consider the input and then make recommendations on the volume, frequency and impact of student assessments throughout the state and on the Common Core state standards. Testimony can be submitted via email at studycommission@doe.state.nj.us or online athttp://www.state.nj.us/education/studycommission/contact.shtml.
