PARSIPPANY, NJ - The 2017-18 Morris County boys basketball season got off to a hot start over the weekend.
Parsippany Christian—a non-NJSIAA member school that plays local squads several times a year—saw its boys and girls team win their own Tip Off tournament this past weekend. Baptist Regional from Haddon Heights, NJ, Coventry Christian from Pottstown, PA and Upton Lake Christian from Clinton Corners, NY all traveled to Parsippany to compete in the boys and girls high school varsity basketball tournament.
The girls squad, upped their record to 2-0 when they defeated Coventry Christian by a 54-27 count. Parsippany Christian outscored Coventry Christian 30-10 in the second half. Morristown resident Chloe Milanesi had 16 points and 13 rebounds in the final and was named tournament MVP. Milanesi was credited with 4 steals and 4 assists. Rose Hockman, a freshman, also had 15 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds in the final and was named to the all-tournament team.
On the boys side, the Patriots moved to 2-0 when they defeated Coventry Christian of Pottstown, PA, 42-39 in the final. The Patriots defeated Upton Lake Christian of New York in the semifinals.
Christian forward Michael Jetton, who scored 23 points in the final, including three 3-pointers was named tournament MVP. Senior guard Patrick Vance recorded team high of 13 rebounds and 4 steals in the game.
Parsippany Christian also staged a 3 point shooting contest throughout the tournament. In the 3 point shooting contest, Parsippany Christian senior guard Alyssa Chellaraj from Morris Plains won for the girls and senior Mike Beitz from Coventry Christian won for the boys.
For their next contest, both teams will travel to Easton PA to face Faith Christian School on Tuesday November 28.
