Temple Trot to Benefit Morristown-based Dog Rescue, Sochi Dogs
MORRISTOWN, NJ - Temple B’nai Or announced it will hold its first-annual Temple Trot, a 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 starting at 9:30 AM at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 101 James Street in Morristown.
The run will provide a healthy way to do “mitzvah work” (charity) to support Temple programs in the Morristown community, as well as “tikkun olam” (the Jewish value of repairing the world) with an organization outside of Temple B’nai Or.
The Temple Trot committee selected Sochi Dogs Rescue, a Morristown-based international dog rescue founded by the mother-daughter duo of Tanya and Anna Umansky, to receive $5 from every Trot registration from people who walk or run with their dogs. These funds will go to support Sochi Dogs’ mission of helping homeless animals through rescue, adoption, and education.
“We are excited and grateful to be a part of the first Temple Trot,” said Anna Umansky, President of Sochi Dog Rescue. “We are proud to have several Sochi dogs living happily ever after in the homes of Temple B’nai Or members, and even more in Morristown. We hope folks will stop by on Sunday and support Temple and learn more about adopting a Sochi Dog.”
Race registration will open at 9:00 AM in the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School parking lot at 101 James Street, Morristown. The simple course begins and ends at the school, traverses Odgen to Wetmore, to Maple to James Street, loops the Cottonwood neighborhood and back up James Street. Runners start at 9:30 AM, and walkers at 9:40 AM.
Runners/walkers are welcome to register on the day of the run. There is a $25 registration fee for adults, $20 for kids under 13 (no charge for kids in strollers).
A very special group of Temple Trot sponsors have helped kick off the mitzvah work through their generous support. Realtor Ryan Dawson of the Weichert Morristown East office is the Presenting Sponsor of the Trot. Glassworks Studio, Morristown Animal Hospital, Swiss Chalet, and The Country Nursery are supporting sponsors. Madison Pet Store, Morris Animal Inn, Marty’s Reliable Cycle have all donated merchandise and food to support this event.
