MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Morris County Tournament in wrestling will take place Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at Mount Olive High School.
With some of the top programs and wrestlers in the state, there will be a lot of eyes on the tournament. State powerhouse Delbarton has won every single team title since 2009, and the Green Wave will be a heavy favorite once again.
As for the public schools, Mendham, Mount Olive and Montville are expected to be three of the top teams in the tournament.
Morristown’s Giovanni Rivera will be in the thick of things at 132 pounds. Hanover Park standout Joey Olivieri will be the favorite in the weight. Connor Watson at 152 will be in the hunt in a strong weight. The Colonials’ Eric Jackson will be a contender at 170.
“The Morris County Tournament is one of the best and most challenging county tournaments in the state – I truly believe that,” said Morristown head coach Casey Flynn. “I am hoping to see a lot of our wrestlers compete against some of the best competition with a lot of effort.”
Flynn said a lot of wrestlers have been asked to step up throughout the season with the team battling through injuries and other adversities.
“A lot of guys have been asked to step up throughout the season, and our youth has showed in some outcomes,” Flynn said. “We have been battling through a lot of injuries and illnesses, and we hope to get some of those guys back to finish the season strong.”
