Morristown, NJ – The first lady of Morristown, Mary Dougherty, has been nominated for this year’s Man & Woman of the Year of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s New Jersey Chapter.
During a spirited ten-week fundraising period that kicked off on April 4th, candidates across the country compete in honor of a local boy or girl who is a blood cancer survivor to raise the most funds to ensure a world without blood cancers. Candidates and their campaign teams will be judged solely on their success in raising money, each dollar counting as one vote. Their totals are then considered for the national title. Candidates in each chapter vie for the local title, and the highest fundraisers nationally earn the title of national Man & Woman of the Year. The national titles will be awarded to the top fundraisers in the country, to be announced this summer.
Mary and her husband, Mayor Tim Dougherty, are hosting a concert featuring Randolph local, Brendan Fletcher, from The Voice at Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown on June 12th. Tickets are on sale now and is expected bring in over $25,000 for her campaign. Mary’s fundraising goal is $130,000.
“Congratulations to Mary and all of our 2017 candidates and campaign team members who will participate in this year’s campaign,” said Jana Boyer. “They are all passionate and determined individuals, and leaders in their communities. Their efforts will really go far in bringing help and hope to patients and their families.”
