UNION, NJ - Friday evening was a double bonus for Morristown High School’s girls basketball program.
From a team perspective, Jimmy Pisciotto’s Colonials steamrolled Union by a 64-37 count at the Farmers’ court to improve to 2-0 on the season.
For Elizabeth Strambi – perhaps the person most responsible for the program’s meteoric rise from a quagmire of last place finishes in the old NJAC-National Division to Morris County and sectional champions in a four-year span – it was 1,000 points.
Strambi pumped in 18 points to move into the 1,000 point club, becoming the second Morristown player to do so in as many years. Kevin Hoehn did the trick on the boys side last winter.
Morristown hopped out to a 28-15 lead at the half en route to its comfortable victory.
Strambi and team will face Immaculate Conception, Newark Tech and Patterson-Kennedy next week in a holiday tournament.
