This Father’s Day, 96-year-old New Vernon resident Walter Ness, will make his television debut in a new commercial for Atlantic Health System Heart Care.
In October 2015, Ness was rushed from a doctor appointment to Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, and diagnosed with congestive heart failure by cardiologist Dr. Jordan Safirstein.
Months later, Ness received a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure— a minimally invasive procedure for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are not candidates for conventional valve repair surgery—from Dr. John Brown, who has been active in developing minimally invasive surgical techniques for adult heart surgery at Atlantic Health System.
A week after the procedure, Ness felt that he had more energy, and was back doing the activities that he loves. An engineer by trade, Ness enjoys working around his home, and even using his chainsaw to chop wood for his wood-burning stove.
“[After the procedure], I was able to walk from Port Authority to the play, then the restaurant, and back,” Ness said. “I wasn’t able to do that without difficulty before I had the procedure. My daughter jokes that I’m back to being a sixty-year-old!”
Ness is an active member with the Morristown Senior Bridge Club, Harding Township Senior Citizens Club, and enjoys going to New York City plays with his daughter, Karen.
“Where you go for heart care matters,” said Ness. “I never thought about going any place else for treatment. I felt comfortable and safe as soon as I was brought into Morristown Medical Center.”
Ness, with his daughter Karen, will appear in the commercials beginning Sunday—Father’s Day.
