EDISON, NJ - 20 NJ fire departments showed up ready to compete and show off their cooking talents with the hopes of bringing home the 1st. place trophy in the annual Cooked and Uncorked Food and Wine Festival at the Pines Manor in Edison, NJ on Monday evening. 

Attendees got to sample culinary offerings from 20 fire departments and more than 30 of the area’s finest restaurants, caterers, and dessert shops as well as wines and spirits from distributors throughout the region.

Competing this year were fire dept.’s from Montclair, Roselle, Elizabeth, Plainfield, Trenton, Clifton, New Brunswick, Hillside, Harrison, Millburn, Union, Belleville, Cranford, Linden, Maplewood, Rahway, Nutley, Paterson, Carteret, and Long Branch.

Over 1,000 people attended the event to raise funds for the NJ State FMBA and St. Barnabas Burn Center. “Last year we raised $67,000 on this event,” said Mike Roberts, committeeman for the event. “And that’s with just getting 10 fire dept.’s to compete for gourmet trophy and 10 to compete for the firehouse.”

Gourmet Division:

1st. Place: Hillside Local #35

2nd. Place: Clifton Local #21

3rd. Place: Millburn Local #32

Peoples Choice: 

1st. Place: Bellville Local #29

2nd. Place: Union Local #46

A new feature this year was an auction for the opportunity to have a gourmet dinner cooked in the winners home by their local firefighter chef's. The meal will feature a signature full-course dinner, including appetizer, entrée, and catered dessert, with specially paired wines, for up to 10 guests. The winner was a Milllburn resident who bid $800.00 and the Millburn fire dept. chef's will be making that dinner.
