POMPTON PLAINS, NJ – Despite a slow start to the season, Morristown High School’s baseball team is going where they expected to be this spring: the Morris County Tournament semifinal.
In quarterfinal action on Sunday, the Colonials outslugged second-seeded Pequannock, 11-6, to advance to the MCT semifinals at Delbarton next Saturday. Morristown, now 8-5 and seeded tenth in the tournament, will ironically get the Green Wave at Fleury Field. Delbarton defeated Montville 4-3 in their quarterfinal matchup.
David Haberman (2-for-3) and Andrew Gold (3-for-4) each created mayhem for the Golden Panthers (12-3) with their bats by driving in three runs apiece, while Brennan O’Neill also had a multi-hit day and a RBI in a 2-for-3 showing.
Senior Jaxen Ruhalter picked up the victory in relief for Morristown, going the final 3.2 innings to secure the victory.
The Colonials erased an early 3-1 deficit by putting up a four-spot in the top half of the third.
