CLIFTON, NJ - The road back to Toms River is still open for the Morristown High baseball team.
The Colonials—seeded fifth in the NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 bracket—advanced to next week’s semifinal round with a 4-2 victory over Clifton in quarterfinal action Friday.
Morristown broke through in the top half of the third when Tate Ballestero homered in Lucas Reida from first base to give them a 2-0 edge early.
After the Mustangs tied it in the bottom of the fourth, Morristown went ahead for good in the next frame.
Caiden Tierney, Jaxen Ruhalter, and Brennan O’Neill combined to form a three-man tag team on the mound to piece together Morristown’s seventeenth victory against nine losses.
Morristown will face the winner of No. 1 seed Randolph and No. 9 seed Montclair on Tuesday May 30.
