MORRIS PLAINS, NJ - A ceremony honoring Former Electrician’s Mate 1/C Richard Johnson will be held on Saturday March 4th, 2017 at the VFW Post 3401 located at 45 Tabor Road (Route 53) in Morris Plains, NJ.
The ceremony will begin at 12:30pm. Members of Sons of American Legion Post 390 Denville NJ, Morris County Tricounty Riders Club and VFW Post 3401 members will present a model replica of the carrier USS Ticonderoga. EM1/C Johnson served aboard the USS Ticongderoga during WWII and was responsible for saving the ship during a Japanese Kamikaze attack.
Under extreme duress he was able to engage the ship’s sprinkler system which ultimately did save the Ticonderoga.
