MORRISTOWN, NJ - Veteran Morristown High lacrosse coach Evan Mager has quite the share of talent on his varsity roster.
Five of his laxsters are Division I prospects, and with a slew of returning players from last year’s 15-7 squad, expectations are high for the 2017 season.
Dynamic midfielders Callie Sundin
and Annika Begley,
both juniors that scored 73 and 71 goals apiece last year, return for Morristown. Sundin is verbally committed to play college LAX at Vanderbilt and Begley is verbally committed to play at Stamford. By attacking out of the midfield position, Sundin and Begley will again add another layer of depth to an already potent Morristown attacking third.
Sara Grace Plott, a senior attacker that will walk on at the University of Tampa next year, returns after scoring 50 goals last year as well. Another midfielder, sophomore Nicole Ferrara—a Louisville commit who recently finished playing in Morristown’s most successful girls basketball season in 37 years—is also back in the mix after scoring 51 goals last season.
Victoria Ferrara, Shelby Clarke, Rachel Langenohl and Mackenzie Siverson are all returning goal scorers in a loaded Morristown attack as well.
On the other side of the field, Cornell-bound defender Linnea Begley will anchor the Colonials back third. She’ll be joined by sophomore Grace Godfrey.
In goal will be four year starter and future Yale Bulldog Amelia Drake. Drake, well over 500 saves in her career, figures to be one of the top netminders in all of New Jersey this year.
Despite all of the talent on the roster, the Colonials will have their work cut out of them thanks to an upgrade in the schedule. The Colonials are now in the NJIGLL-Stars & Stripes division, and there they will see state and national powerhouses Summit, Mountain Lakes, Chatham, and Immaculate Heart in division play.
Morristown launches the campaign at home on March 29th, when they’ll host Westfield at 4:00 PM. A trip to Westwood to face IHA soon follows suit on April 1.
