FLORHAM PARK, NJ - Girls on the Run New Jersey East is registering 3rd-5th grade girls for its upcoming spring season. Locally, the program will be offered at the Florham Park Elm Street Recreation Complex on Mondays and Fridays from 3:30-4:45PM beginning on Monday, April 3. Registration will remain open through Friday, April 14 or until the site is full, whichever comes first.
Girls on the Run is a physical-based youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd-8th grade to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Trained volunteer coaches meet with the girls twice per week for 10 weeks at school and park sites where they teach skills that will boost girls in the ways they need it most as they enter their adolescent years. The program empowers participants as it encourages personal development, team building, and connection to the local community. Running activities reinforce lesson objectives, helping girls to train for the end-of-season 5K run.
The 10-week program concludes with all participants completing the Florham Park Jaycees 5K on Saturday, June 10 at Holy Family Church, an opportunity which gives the girls a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
“I can’t wait for the 5K because running through the finish line will be one of the best moments of my life,” says local third-grader Ellie.
This year, GOTR is supported by presenting sponsor R. Seelaus & Company, Inc., a Summit, NJ-based financial services firm. Currently celebrating 17 years of serving girls in New Jersey, GOTR NJ East has expanded to include sites in Morris, Essex, Union, Mercer, and Burlington Counties.
