ROSELLE, NJ - If the Summit High School Boys Varsity Ice Hockey Team had a mental hangover after their disappointing loss to Westfield in the Union County Cup Final, it didn't last long.

Back on the same sheet of ice that, just 72 hours earlier, had seen them drop a 3-2 decision to the Blue Devils -- a game in which they led after two periods -- the Hilltoppers again demonstrated their puck prowess and mental resilience by dominating and defeating Morristown, 7-0, at the Warninanco Skating Center.

Senior captain Will Vitton had two goals and an assist, and Sophomore Jake Puskar and freshman Greg Spitznagel each scored twice in the victory, which elevated Summit's record to 15-2 on the season. Sophomore goaltender Nikita Pryymak made 23 saves to record his third shutout of the season.

Owning the biscuit in the opening period, the Hilltoppers opened the scoring at the 9:42 mark when Puskar tipped in sophomore Olli Passonen's point shot -- one of three assists Passonen would have on the evening. The lead was 2-0 just over six minutes later when junior Luc Radice found the back of the net, assisted by senior captain Johnny Puskar and Radice's classmate Charlie Collins.

Vitton scored both his goals in the second to double a lead that had already been doubled. His first came at 7:08, off assists from junior alternate captain Greg Moller and Passonen, and the second -- off a rebound -- arrived at 1:14 and was provided by senior JP Jacobello and Passonen.

Up 4-0, Summit stayed on the front skate at pumped three more shots past the Colonial's Derek Peck, with two Spitznagel goals sandwiching Jake Puskar's second of the evening.

Summit will next face a very good Madison squad, currently 14-5 on the season and 8-0 in its conference, January 28 at the William G. Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown. Face-off is set for 7:15 p.m.

Mennen Sports Arena is located at 161 Hanover Avenue.
