MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Provident Bank Foundation has awarded a $5,500 grant to The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) to support its community volunteer program in the Morris School District for the 2014-2015 school year. 

The generous grant will provide the resources needed to fund the MEF’s tutoring program.  At Frelinghuysen Middle School, over thirty tutors are working with approximately 50 children in both language arts and mathematics instruction.

FMS Principal David Thompson shared, “The support that tutors provide is invaluable in helping our students improve their academic skills, which translates into overall increased academic success.  The tutors represent positive and successful role models who encourage our students to establish high expectations and meaningful goals for themselves. “  He added, “It is heartwarming to see the excitement in our students when they know that a neighbor in the community really cares about them.” 

In addition, the program provides volunteer tutor assistance for the Academic Afterschool program at Sussex Avenue Elementary School.  The MEF also works in partnership with a variety of other community organizations that work alongside the district to provide tutoring support in grades 1 – 8.
