MORRISTOWN – Anyone who followed the rugged MCSSIHL-Mennen Division can tell just by the eye test that Morristown’s Jay Horan was one of the league’s top defensemen.
Earlier in the week, the senior was given that distinction, as Horan was named as a first-team All-Mennen Division selection by the loop’s coaches. In addition to his defense, Horan chipped in offensively with seven goals and 14 assists for Bobby Jones’ club.
The most important of those points came in the opening round of the state tournament, where Horan’s hat-trick effort was enough to give the Colonials a come from behind, 3-2 victory over Westfield in a Public B first round clash.
Nate DeFares – Morristown’s senior captain and leading scorer with 30 points – was also recognized as a second team all-league selection. Despite opponents keying in on him all winter long, DeFares led the way with 13 goals and 17 assists for the Colonials.
The team’s next leading scorer, sophomore Conor Critchley, was also named to the honorable mention squad in the Mennen Division. Critchley also slipped in 13 goals, and assisted on 10 more.
