Scam Alert 1: Fake Donations

It's a testament to the generosity of the people in our nation to want to pitch in and help those affected by a catastrophe. As we see all the destruction that Harvey and now Irma are imparting, our hearts go out to these folks, and we want to respond by opening our wallets.

Unfortunately, criminals and scam artists are counting on that generous spirit, too, and they have concocted quite a few convincing fake platforms to take that money out of your caring hands and into their own accounts.

Scam Alert 2: IRS Ransomwear 

And the hits just keep on coming, unfortunately!

The IRS warns us to be alert to a new phishing scheme that impersonates the IRS and the FBI as part of a ransomware scam to take computer data hostage.

The scam email uses the emblems of both the IRS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It tries to entice users to download a fake FBI questionnaire.

Instead, the link downloads ransomware that prevents users from accessing data stored on their device unless they pay money to the scammers.
