MORRISTOWN, NJ - When an emergency department nurse at Morristown Medical Center learned her 82-year-old patient with a broken hip was missing his only daughter’s wedding day, she brought the wedding to him.

Katie Isaacson, RN made arrangements to get the father’s tux delivered, and worked to schedule an impromptu wedding for Crystal Nagy and Rob Kashinsky at the hospital’s chapel. The entire bridal party and emergency room staff met at the chapel shortly after, where the bride and groom said their official “I dos” in front of Nagy’s father. The bride’s father was able to “walk” his daughter down the aisle, and could participate in her big day.

“I thought ‘oh my gosh, not today,’” Isaacson said. “That was her wedding day and she didn’t have her mom. We made the best of it.”

“My father’s fall and trip to the hospital was a devastating blow to start my wedding day, but I’m thrilled he was still able to give me away and see us get married,” Nagy said. “[The staff at Morristown Medical Center] made a tragic event bearable.”

The wedding party later went on with the scheduled ceremony and reception.
