With the retirement of longtime Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, the good people of Morris, Essex, Sussex and Passaic Counties will elect a new representative this November. It also means that our Republican Party has a choice to make, as well.
Do we nominate a career politician in an age when most people don’t trust their government or the people serving, or do we seize this opportunity to do something bold and energize our party heading into the general election? Without question we must do the latter, which is why I announced my candidacy for Congress and am working very hard to earn your support in the June primary.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tony Ghee and I was born at Trenton Hospital and raised by my mother with the loving support of my grandmother.
Growing up with modest means, my mother instilled in me the importance of education and the idea that anyone in America – regardless of their race, color, creed or gender – can achieve their dreams so long as they work hard, serve their community, and never give up despite what may sometimes appear to be insurmountable odds.
I have lived those values as an adult.
I was the first person in my family to attend college and earned my undergraduate degree in Business Administration, with honors, from Virginia Union University and my Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. In addition, I received a Masters of Law from Georgetown University School of Law, specializing in Securities & Financial Regulation, and my FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) Series 7, 24, 63, 65, 79, 86 and 87 licenses.
I am also licensed to practice law in the States of New Jersey and New York, and am currently employed as a Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the Global Wealth & Investment Management Chief Investment Office in New York City.
In law school, we were reminded that to whom much is given, much is required. That charge still resonates with me today, which is why I chose to follow in the tradition of my grandfather and great-grandfather, who proudly served our country in WWII and WWI, respectively.
Today, I hold the rank of Major and serve as HQ Commander of the U.S. Army Reserve
Legal Command in Gaithersburg, MD. Prior to that, I served as the Brigade Judge Advocate at the 77th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Dix, NJ, and on the General Officer Support Team at the Pentagon.
Growing up, my father was essentially absent from my life. But through his absence, I learned the value of being a strong and present father to my two children. My wife Michele and I are blessed to be raising Taylor and Jordan in a safe community where they attend great schools and have the world at their fingertips.
Michele and I have been active volunteers in organizations whose missions include helping single Mom’s break the cycle of poverty, combating homelessness, raising money for breast cancer awareness, and hosting a “boot camp” to introduce young children to concepts of investing and fiscal responsibility.
So, what made me decide to run for Congress?
In the decade leading up to 2017, our nation careened from a historic financial crisis, to stagnant economic growth, to an increasing federal trade deficit, to dangerously high levels of national debt.
We can’t tax, spend or borrow our way out of this mess. We need Republican leadership that promotes individual freedom, eliminates the bloated bureaucracy, and unleashes the true entrepreneurial spirit of America. That means putting people before politics, and bringing fresh ideas and new energy to Washington.
As your Republican candidate for Congress, I pledge to:
• Ensure our brave men and women in the military have the resources they need to accomplish their mission, and that they receive the recognition, care and benefits they deserve.
• Work with the President and Members of Congress in both parties to fund key infrastructure projects like the Gateway Tunnel.
• Secure our schools and neighborhoods and get guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, while protecting our 2nd Amendment rights.
• Reduce taxes that burden families and repel jobs, support small businesses, and demand New Jersey gets its fair share from Washington.
• Secure our borders and end illegal immigration, while promoting tough, but fair, immigration reforms that overhaul the current failed system and restores the rule of law.
• Fight to strengthen our educational system by demanding greater accountability and being a proponent of parental choice.
With the June 5th Republican primary just a few weeks away, I’m asking for your support. I believe my candidacy gives us the best chance to win in November an ensure we continue to grow our economy, create jobs, and provide opportunity to every American.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to have your support on June 5th.
