Free Screening in Cranford of Mighty Times: The Children's March How the Young Activists of Birmingham Brought Segregation to Its Knees

In the early days of May 1963 more than 3,000 African-American students, some only in primary school, defied arrest, fire hoses, police dogs and public expectation by marching to protest the city of Birmingham, Alabama's racial segregation laws. The Children's March proved to be remarkably effective.  Under withering international media scrutiny, city officials on May 10 agreed to desegregate local stores.  The series of marches, now embedded in the annals of the civil rights struggle, were critical in changing the course of history’s trajectory.  In the words of Dr. King “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” The documentary Mighty Times: The Children’s March depicts how these children marched in hope of that truth.
