MORRISTOWN, NJ - Cannons, muskets and bayonets! See and hear all these and more at the Civil War Weekend, Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10 at Historic Speedwell in Morristown.
Visitors will be able to visit the battlefields of the American Civil War during this two day event. The weekend showcases the daily lives of soldiers. Visitors will witness musket, artillery, and bayonet drills as well as cannon firings and skirmishes. Soldiers will talk to visitors about cooking, camp setup, and dress.
Visitors can learn about the basics of battlefield medicine for soldiers who suffered injuries or diseases, and visit the medical area where the ‘wounded’ are cared for. Tours of the Vail House andthe national Historic Landmark Factory Building will be available with interactive hands on telegraph exhibit.
Explore the exhibits on the Speedwell Ironworks, a granary full of early farm implements, and watch the enormous 24-foot overshot waterwheel turn in the Wheelhouse.
