MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Morris County Historical Society announces that its headquarters, Acorn Hall, will be closed for historic house and exhibit tours due to annual interior maintenance, which will include the restoration of the Gallery Gift Shop to its original 19th-century palette and the addition of gift items.

Among the items we are adding to the gift shop are reproductions of historic maps, an array of Lucille Hobbie prints, note cards featuring images from historic postcards, as well as a wide selection of books on local history.

We regret any inconvenience to our visitors due to this revised schedule, but we look forward to making our site more inclusive. The Society’s business office, however, remains open on Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The MCHS office is closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.

The MCHS resumes historic house tours at Acorn Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when it returns to its regular tour schedule on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.   

MCHS is located at Acorn Hall, 68 Morris Ave., Morristown. Admission, which includes the exhibits and landscaped grounds, is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for students, and is free for children under 12 and MCHS members.  For more information, call MCHS at 973-267-3465 or visit the MCHS website: MorrisCountyHistory.org.

Founded in 1945, MCHS is a member-supported 501 (c)3 organization whose mission is to preserve and promote the history of Morris County.

The MCHS receives operating funds from the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey HistoricalCommission, and project/preservation grant funding from the New Jersey Historic Trust, 1772 Foundation, and Morris County Historic Preservation Trust. The MCHS was also awarded a Sandy Disaster Relief Grant for Historic Properties by the New Jersey Historic Trust, with funds provided by the Historic Preservation Fund of the National Park Service to the NJ State Historic Preservation Office.
