Dina spent time speaking with middle schoolers about how she turned her passion, cooking, into a career.  A comprehensive college preparation program must address four distinct dimensions of college readiness: cognitive strategies, content knowledge, self-management skills, and knowledge about postsecondary education and careers.  However, knowing what to study or apprentice once you graduate high school isn’t always easy to figure out.  In middle school, at Unity Charter School, students have an elective period, called STARS.  The class takes place each six days it allows students to meet experts from various fields who “followed their passion” to make a living.  STARS stands for, “Students Take Active Responsibility for Success”. The programs looks to empower students to hold themselves accountable for working at their most optimal and rigorous level, while also introducing them to passionate professionals and industry experts.
