MORRISTOWN, NJ - Past Woodland Elementary School Principal David Gidich passed away on Saturday January 4, 2020. He was 70 years old.
Gidich was principal of Woodland School in Morristown for 13 years until his retirement in 2015. According to his obituary, prior to coming to Morristown, he was the past superintendent of the Boonton Township School System and a principal within the Montclair School District. He passed away after a 4-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer, the obituary read.
Those who knew him shared memories on the funeral home's tribute wall. Past students remembered him as "the best principal ever" and "the one who made coming to school fun". Parents of past students said he was a "true leader" and one educator commented that she was "blessed to have worked with him".
"David Gidich was a beloved principal in our district for many years and positively impacted hundreds of children", said Morris School District Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast.. "He will be remembered with great affection by students, parents, and colleagues alike. We extend our deepest condolences to his family".
A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, January 8 from 4pm - 8pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road in Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people make a donation to the Memorial Sloan Kettering in an effort to find a cure for Pancreatic Cancer.
