This week Lauren Laurino, Dr. Ren, visited Unity Charter School.  Dr. Ren traveled from Tennessee to meet with the students and to speak with them about holistic medicine and naturopathy.  She brought with her Dawna Campbell, who traveled from Montana to meet the students and guide them through a meditation.  Both speakers joined the students during their STARS course.

STARS stands for, “Students Take Active Responsibility for Success”.

The program looks to empower middle school students to hold themselves accountable for working at their most optimal and rigorous level. It provides students with the social emotional and academic support they need to become successful while also challenging them to set and meet short- and long-term goals.  Part of the program’s goal is also to introduce students to professionals in various fields that promote the idea of “following your passion while helping others and making the world a better place”.

During her talk Dr. Ren spoke to the students about her career and how the word holistic defines a complete form of health care that does not reject conventional medicine, but includes non-traditional approaches to healing and sound nutrition.  She told them about her evolving career and the experiences she has gained as she pursues her passions.  She also spoke about healthy nutrition, living a balanced life and having an open mind. Dr. Ren has authored four books, two of which achieved best-selling status on Amazon.  She was a nominee for President Obama's Precision Medical Initiative in July 2015, and the recipient of the 2014 American Naturopathic Medical Associations Higher Achievement Award, a California State Senate Award for an unyielding commitment toward the education and prevention of disease.  Dr. Ren was also Dr. Oz’s Local Health Hero and has appeared as a guest multiple times on his show.
