Masks must be worn and social distancing will be implemented.
“Even during these difficult times, the spirit of giving is important to our church. Morristown is a diverse community of over 18,000 residents, comprising of approximately 30% Hispanic and 10% Black population that has seen a sharp increase in unemployment and displacement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who need help with food, we will try to meet the need in this effort”, said Rev. Robert C. Rogers, who serves as Pastor of the Church of God In Christ for All Saints.
“Donations from the Farmers to Families program allows us to further enlarge our reach into the communities we serve, said Penny Lopez, Coordinator. “Many of our at-need residents rely heavily upon the generosity of programs that provide vital resources where they can begin to rebuild and recover their lives”.
Farmers to Families distributes goods to non-profit, faith-based and community organizations as part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Under this Act, the USDA purchases and distributes up to $4 billion in fresh produce, dairy, vegetables and meats from American producers.
COGICFAS is a faith-based organization with a brave initiative: Inviting people, to experience God’s power, to win at life. They are deeply embedded in the community for over 95 years with programs such as Community Health Day, a collaboration with Morristown Medical Center for over 25 years providing health and wellness information and various health screenings; Operation Love for over 35 years, providing food, clothing and toiletries to those in need during the Christmas holiday; and the Tutorial program, for over 7 years, with a goal to increase the number of students reading on grade level, homework assistance, group and one-on-one tutoring.
The Church of God and Christ for All Saints and the Farmers to Families program both share an aligned mission to help those within the community that have been marginalized and underserved.
