MORRISTOWN, NJ - Full Time Fitness owner Matt Scarfo gives back to the Morristown community whenever he can. This past holiday season, his gym held a coat and clothing drive for the Market Street Mission.
In total, the drive collected over 90 pieces of clothing which included 37 coats, 10 scarves, 20 pairs of gloves, 22 hats and 1 earmuff, which were all donated to the Market Street Mission. In addition to helping clients lose weight, add muscle and just feel healthier, owner Matt Scarfo works with the mission often. He has spoken to a group of 80 men at the mission during one of their morning chapel meetings. Scarfo spoke on the relationship with poor eating habits and the correlation with addiction.
The holiday drive is not the only time Scarfo, his staff and members have given back to the community. In the past, the gym has held a collection drive benefiting the Battered Women's Shelter.
"We had an impressive collection for the Battered Woman's Shelter", said Scarfo. "We nearly ran out of room to store the amount of clothes, toiletries, diapers and wipes for the shelter."
Not only does Scarfo collect material items for the community, but he freely gives of his time as well. Scarfo worked with Reid Cappel, a local resident and Atlantic Health EMS employee who needed to lose 40 pounds before doctors would put him on a kidney transplant list. With the help of Scarfo and his staff, Cappel has lost more than 52 pounds.
"Not only do I feel great about being able to offer my expertise to Reid, but I feel great knowing that I’m helping him help the scores and scores of people who’s lives he touches as a First Responder and life saver", said Scarfo. "By helping one, I’m helping many, and that’s a wonderful feeling"
Reid is still looking for a match. You could help too by filling out or sharing the Living Donor Referral form HERE to see if you are a match for Reid.
Scarfo plans to continue helping the community. He will be holding another drive this January.
