MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Morris School District officially opened the a rock climbing wall at the Lafayette Learning Center in Morristown. The rock climbing wall will be used by the preschool classes.

The Morris Educational Foundation provided a "Gratitude Grant" to fund the purchase and installation of the wall. The wall features a variety of large, child friendly shapes including a grab-bar style handholds and ledge style footholds that makes climbing easy and fun. In addition to other programs that Lafayette Learning Center offers, the climibing wall enables students to develop upper body strength, core, balance, hand grips (essential for handwriting) and motor planning skills. Students also practice social skills such as turn taking and offering encouraging words to their classmates.

"This unique learning opportunity enhances our early childhood program", said Chrissie Wetherbee, Assistant Executive Director of the Morris Educational Foundation.  "The Gratitude Grant Program is just one example of how donor support enables the Morris Educational Foundation to bring innovative and unique programs to our schools and our students".
