Why did the college rename itself?

"I always envisioned a university as this big, prolific place that sat on a hill with thousands of students and a college being a much more pastoral, comfortable, bucolic place much like the College of Saint Elizabeth", said Streubert. "When I became an academic, and I started to identify the differences between lots of terms in higher education, I realized that a university was really a connotation that was given to institutions that had master's and graduate programs".

"The College of Saint Elizabeth has had master's programs since the 70's", she said. "It certainly seems to make sense that we take advantage of the opportunity to be represent in a way that is customary for institutions that have both master's and doctoral programs."

This is significant for the college because it lets people know that they have both programs and are a comprehensive institution, said Streubert.

The name change will allow for increased enrollment and build on the current programs they already have. Although some things may change, the mission of the college won't change.

"We are incredibly committed to the legacy of the Sisters of Charity and the work that was entrusted to us over 120 years ago", said Streubert. "We will continue to provide high quality education to individuals who have had limited access to higher education".
