MORRISTOWN, NJ - Unity Charter School's Executive Director, Connie Sanchez, named to advisory council, announced The New Jersey Charter Schools Association (NJCSA). The NJCSA Membership Council consists of high achieving school leaders that are representative of New Jersey’s diverse charter community, the association stated.

The Membership Council serves as an advisory body and will advise NJCSA and its Board on key advocacy issues that impact the organization. In particular, the council will help vet and consider the organization’s annual Policy Agenda and will convene as necessary to give guidance to staff and to the Board about breaking advocacy matters. This year’s Membership Council consists of the following nine members:

  • Connie Sanchez, Unity Charter School- Morristown

  • Jared Taillefer, Great Oaks Legacy Charter School- Newark

  • Graig Weiss, Foundation Academy Charter School- Trenton 

  • Danielle West, The Queen City Academy Charter School- Plainfield

As the Executive Director of Unity Charter School, Sanchez works as a collaborative educational leader who leads the staff in curriculum development, implementation and revision, assuring that teaching methods support core curriculum requirements and meet the ecological and sustainability mission of the school, said school officials.  Additionally, she works to promote the unique mission and vision of the school which includes teaching the importance of protecting and improving the environment by educating students on the principles of sustainability, ecology, and diversity in a way that celebrates and honors this planet and all its inhabitants, they said.  She began her fifth year with the school this school year after signing a three-year contract extension. 

Unity Charter School is a tuition-free, public school in Morris Township that offers a unique approach to education for students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade throughout New Jersey. Enrollment is open to all New Jersey residents. At Unity Charter school students develop 21st century skills, including creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and citizenship via our project-based, experiential model. Our in-depth sustainability and STEAM programs over-index in experiential learning opportunities, as we leverage opportunities to educate from our outdoor classroom and the greater community.
