The Town of Morristown has received numerous inquiries into the June 28th death of Amani Kildea. Several news agencies have incorrectly reported that this tragedy occurred in the Town of Morristown, when in fact, it occurred in a Morris County owned and operat-ed park, which falls well outside our municipal boundaries and the jurisdiction of the Town of Morristown. The Town does not manage nor maintain the park.

“As we await answers in the ongoing investigation into the death of Amani Kildea, we wish to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends”, said Mayor Tim Dougherty. “Our thoughts are with the Kildea family at this time.”

The Kildea family and friends of Amani deserve a thorough and proper investigation, as is being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. The Morris County Park Police, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office are working on the investigation.

All questions or concerns should be directed to the proper agency, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. We urge anyone who would like to learn more information to visit their website, https://prosecutor.morriscountynj.gov.
