PARSIPPANY, NJ - A stray bullet that was found in the hallway of Brooklawn Middle School was the cause of a lockdown yesterday afternoon.
At approximately 2:25 PM Brooklawn Middle School was placed in lockdown after a student found a bullet in a hallway.
School Resource Officer P. McCarthy is assigned to and stationed inside the school and he quickly responded to where the round was found after being notified by school officials. Responding officers secured the perimeter and conducted a sweep of the school for any possible threats, weapons, or other ammunition. After the sweep was completed the decision was made to dismiss the students in a controlled manner. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 3:00 pm. The Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Division will be conducting an investigation into how/who brought the bullet into the school.
An student who wishes to remain anonymous said "I was nervous. Since there was a deadly shooting in a Florida School two days earlier, kids were nervous and jittery. The teachers did a great job making everyone stay calm".
Joan Benos, Chief of Staff/Public Information Officer stated, "We are proud of our students and staff for following our security protocol and apologize for any distress this may have caused. Counselors will be available on Tuesday for any student needing to speak with them."
