Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the Port Authority has provided the City of Bayonne with updated information on the Bayonne Bridge construction project.
Steel from the old version of the bridge is being demolished between 2nd Street and 1st Street. Demolition is expected to be completed to 1st Street by the end of July. Drill shaft and sheet pile work is in progress between 4th Street and Juliette Street. Drill shaft and sheet pile work is expected to be completed by the end of December 2017.
Regular daytime 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. closures have been suspended for the time being. There will be no daytime closures this week. Further use of daytime closures may be scheduled at some later point, but for the immediate future, the roadway will remain open during daytime hours. Full closures are scheduled for Monday through Thursday overnights from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Next weekend, the Bayonne Bridge will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 23, and will reopen by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 26.
Some local street closings are in effect for safety reasons during construction and demolition. Margaret Street is closed until 2019. A portion of 4th Street is closed until December 2017. Juliette Street is closed until December 2017. Gertrude Street is closed until July.
