MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ -  Thirty-three year old Patrick Lake of Denville has been arrested for burglary and theft in Morris Township, announced police.

According to authorities, a resident on Fairchild Avenue contacted police after seeing an unknown man in his home. Police arrived at the home and with the help of detectives and officers from the Morristown Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff's Office, they were able to apprehend the suspect.

The stolen items included jewelry, cash, alcohol and miscellaneous items. These items also led to the discovery of a second burglary on Sherman Avenue, said police.

Lake was charged with two counts of Third Degree Burglary and two counts of Third Degree Theft. He was brought to the Morris County Jail, pending his court appearance.

There were no injuries and no weapons involved in the incident, said police.

"Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity at the time it is observed", said Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo. "Residents are also encouraged to take preventative measures to protect their homes from potential burglars. Some preventative tips include making your residence appear occupied, leaving lights on at night only, park a vehicle in your driveway and remove packages and mail from outside your home".
