MORRIS COUNTY, NJ - Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar is observed by Muslims as a month of fasting. The holy month began on April 23 and will end on May 23 with Eid-Al Fitr a celebration of breaking fast on April 24.
During this month, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and smoking. There is also no intimate contact during the month.
During the month three Morris County Islamic Centers; Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center (JMIC), Harrison Street, Boonton, NJ, Islamic Center of Morris County (ICMC), Mannino Drive, Rockaway, NJ, and the Islamic Society of North Jersey (ISNJ), Rt. 46 Bud Lake, NJ will host prayer services online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the stay at home orders and social distancing, all Islamic Centers and Mosques are closed. Worshippers are asked to pray at home with their families. Daily prayers are at 4:45AM, 1:00PM, 5:00PM, 7:45PM, and 9:30PM. There are several live streaming sessions. Please check their facebook pages, for schedules.
The traditional community and interfaith dinner at sunset, iftar, is also canceled. The end of Ramadan celebrations holiday, Eid Al Fitr, on may 24 is on hold. Officials are awaiting guidelines and directions from state officials.
