MORRISTOWN, NJ- After thirty-one and a half minutes of play, Morristown had the final possession with 38.7 seconds remaining on the clock in a 33-33 game. Aziah Adams sent Morristown High School into an uproar, as she drained the game winning shot from the top of the key with 2 seconds left. The Colonials were down by one with just over a minute remaining, before Michaela Lattimore hit the latter of her two free throws to level the score. With the win, Morristown moves to 4-2 on the season.

“We wanted to score quick, but their defense didn’t allow it and Tara made the extra pass,” said coach Jim Pisciotto. “All of the girls on the floor are confident in their shot and Aziah made the most of it.”

Defense was the story early for both teams, as Morristown forced 8 West Morris turnovers allowing only 6 points in the 1stquarter, trailing however 6-5. It was more of the same in the 2nd, but the Colonials hit the half up 13-12.

Adams and the Colonials picked up their offense out of halftime as she scored 6 of her team-high 8 points in the 3rd.

Morristown saw a late 6-point lead disappear after a Mackenzie Selvaggi three-pointer put West Morris up with 2 minutes remaining.

The Colonials defense held up from that point on, forcing 20 turnovers and executing on their final two possessions for the win.

Morristown will look to make it 2 straight against Hunterdon Central on Saturday.

“We are growing as a team and continuing to get better game after game,” said Pisciotto. “If we continue to play good defense we will be in most games, we just have to keep finding ways to win.”
