PARSIPPANY HILLS, NJ- Sunday’s highly anticipated semifinal didn’t disappoint, as unbeaten Delbarton advanced to the Morris County final after an overtime winner by Branden McSorley. The Colonials gave it their all, and now join Delran as the only 2 teams level with Delbarton after 80 minutes.

“When you play with the #1 team in the state like that, we can contend against a lot of teams,” said coach Diego Salas. “We still have plenty of soccer to play, states are looming.”

Morristown came out of the gates firing, as Henry Acosta gave the Colonials a dream start with a right- footed strike into the top-right corner. Delbarton regained their composure, firing multiple shots toward Jonathan Nicholson. Midway through the 1 st half, Mcsorley banged home a cross from Justin Carro, as Delbarton found a well-deserved equalizer.

Ten minutes later, Ivan Scotto put Delbarton in front, moments before halftime. Jordan Viotto had a great opportunity to level the score just before the halftime whistle, however, Derek Polanco made an outstanding kick save, keeping the Green Wave ahead at the half.

Morristown didn’t give up one bit in the 2 nd half, and really took the game to Delbarton. Gavin Cunningham gave coach Diego Salas great minutes off the bench and delivered Morristown’s biggest goal of the season. Connor McCreedy sent a cross to the back-post that Cunningham slammed into the back of the net, for a 2-2 game.

“Our guys responded in the 2 nd half, they really wanted this game, and I’m just extremely proud of them,” Salas said after the game.

It won’t be long before the Colonials have another crack at the states #1 team, as they square off for a third time this season on Tuesday at Morristown.
