MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Colonials started strong and never looked back in their 4-0, NJSIAA North 1 Group 4 opening round win over North Bergen. Morristown had four different goal-scorers en route to their 15th win of the season. The Colonials will face the 3rd seed Kearny on Friday in the Quarterfinal.

The opening goal came ten minutes in, from the Colonials leading scorer, Henry Acosta. Just minutes later, Diego Izaguiree delivered a 35- yard free kick over the extended reach of the keeper for a 2-0 Colonial lead.

“We had 2 beautiful first half goals to really set the tone after a shaky start,” said head coach Diego Salas. “Then our guys staying focused and not backing down, getting the next goal was huge.”

In the 2nd half Jordan Viotto tapped in a Morristown third, darting down the wing to chase down a Connor Mannion cross while dribbling around the keeper. Connor Tierney slammed home a perfect cross late on to score Morristown’s final goal.

Four would be more than enough for Jonathan Nicholson and the Colonial defense, who earned their 3rd consecutive shutout.

The 6 seeded Colonials face one of their stiffer challenges of the year in Kearny on Friday, but Morristown will be well prepared come Friday.

“The road in our section is extremely tough, but I told our guys that if we can compete with the top teams in our county, then we can compete with the top teams in the state,” said Salas.
