MORRISTOWN, NJ- The Colonials overcame an early 2-goal deficit and used a dominating second half to defeat Columbia 7-3, in a North 1 Group 4 NJSIAA Quarterfinal matchup. The defending sectional champions await the winner of top-seeded Ridge or 8th seed Union.

“We played an incredible team game today, seeing multiple girls getting goals is great,” said coach Katherine DiBiasse. “It took us a little while to wake up, but our girls delivered in the 2nd half.”

Columbia took an early 2-0 lead after goals from Hudson Hassier and Annie Pasternak, to the disbelief of coach DiBiasse.

Sydney Familo responded just moments later to get the Colonials on the board. However, Pasternak would have an answer for Columbia, and Morristown was back at a 2-goal deficit.

Nina Ferrante cut the lead back to 1 shortly after, scoring on a Morristown corner. Then the Colonials turned to Brittany Hoftijizer.

Hoftijizer tied the game right before halftime and the Colonials would never look back.

Hoftizer added 2 more 2nd half goals to complete her hat-trick and assisted Morgan Mastracchio’s go ahead goal. Phoebe Etzold added a goal in a 4-goal 2nd half for Morristown.

“Corners were a huge part of our offense today, and I want to continue to see the girls work together and play as a team,” said coach DiBiasse.

The semifinal matchup will take place on Monday.
