MOUNT OLIVE, NJ - The Morristown High School girls soccer team earned the first win of the season by knocking off Mount Olive, 4-2, on Monday, Sept. 9.
Coming off a tie against Parsippany Hills, the Colonials found the back of the net twice in each half. Morristown was able to take advantage of its chances despite being outshot 22-16.
Morgan O’Neill finished with a hat trick and Kathryn Duff found the back of the net. Other notables included Amanda Gillespie, who led the defense. Gabrielle Romano and
Tara O’Neill were also effective for Morristown. Mia Cecala was strong in goal with a couple of crucial saves to keep the team in the game.
“Really proud of the way this team came together and bounced back from a rough start to the season,” said Morristown head coach Scott Hansen. “We were looking to build on
this performance and get ready for a tough game with Sparta this Thursday.”
Morristown (1-1-1) returns to the pitch against Sparta on Thursday, Sept. 12. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Greystone-Central Park in Morris Plains.
