RANDOLPH, NJ - The Morristown High School girls tennis team opened the season with a 3-2 victory at Randolph on Thursday, Sept. 5.
With the match being pushed back from Wednesday due to weather concerns,Morristown squeaked out the victory by winning two of three matches in singles. At first singles, Morristown’s Grace Starcher didn’t drop a game and defeated the Rams’ Olivia Lazar, 6-0, 6-0. Maddie Siegel followed her lead and also won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles for the Colonials.
The doubles flights saw two very tight matches. At first doubles, the Randolph duo of Julia Nitulescu and Abby Vogel defeated the Morristown pair of Maddie Beavis and Alex
Fisher, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. At second doubles, Morristown rallied after dropping the second set, as Anne Merritt and Madison Silver slipped past Ashley Becker and Emma Halper of
Randolph, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
There will be little time for rest for Morristown. The team takes on Mendham on Sept. 6 and then plays Livingston on Sept. 7.
