MORRISTOWN – Two players on the Morristown High School girls tennis team will compete in the state single's tournament starting on Oct. 5 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor.
First singles player Grace Sharter and second singles player Maddie Siegel qualified for this year’s state singles tournament.
Sharter will open the tournament against Moorestown Friends’ Lisa Seiler, a third singles player who is seeded 17-32 in the tournament. Siegel will compete against Moorestown Friends’ Bella Pescatore, a second singles player who is seeded 9-16 in the tournament.
The tournament features players from all over the state and is very competitive every year.
Renna Moshen-Breen, a first singles player for Moorestown Friends, is the overall top seed in the tournament. Caroline McGinley of Kent Place is the second seed, Daria Smetannakov of Red Bank Catholic is the third seed and Fort Lee’s Stephanie Yakoff is the fourth seed in the tournament.
The first two rounds of action will be on Oct. 5. The tournament continues on Oct. 6 starting at 9 a.m. with the third and fourth rounds, also at Mercer County Park. The quarterfinals will be played at the same site on Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. The semifinals will be a day after at Mercer County Park starting at 10 a.m.
The finals for both singles and doubles will be at Mercer County Park on Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
Morristown, as a team, received the fourth seed in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 tournament. The Colonials will meet 13th-seeded Union City in the first round
on Thursday at 4 p.m., weather permitting. Livingston is the top seed in the section, Ridgewood is second, Bergen Tech is third, Morristown’s fourth and Montclair is the fifth seed.
