MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morristown High School held the District 11 wrestling tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22. Five Colonial wrestlers qualified for the regions. Morristown will compete at Region 3 at West Orange starting on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Mendham won District 11 on Saturday. Morristown had a strong showing with a number of wrestlers reaching the final. Starting at 106 pounds, Mason Gervasio made the final before losing a 6-4 decision to Hackettstown’s Austin Zellars. Gervasio was the fourth seed and defeated top-seeded Daniel Silveria of Kearny in a 7-6 decision in the semifinals.
The highlight of the day for Morristown came at 132 pounds, when top-seeded sophomore Giovanni Rivera pinned second-seeded Brnadon Vanzini of Kearny in 3:12 to win the district title.
At 145, Morristown senior Marc Dilluvio reached the final. He ended up taking second. At 160, Morristown’s Ryan Jackson lost a 12-4 major decision to Whippany Park’s Thomas Stigliano in the final.
In the 170-pound final, Morristown’s Aidan Watson, the second seed, lost to Mendham’s top-seeded Andrew Bryan by a 4-3 decision.
