MORRISTOWN, NJ- In a 2-2 game with less than 20 seconds left, Morristown was awarded a corner for a chance to win the game. The ball was played to Brittany Hoftijizer at the top of the box, who fired a shot into traffic that was tipped in by Sydney Familo, sending the Colonials to the Morris County tournament quarterfinals.
“In a situation like that, you want to go with someone who can really shoot and Britt has the hardest shot on the team,” said coach Katherine DiBiasse. “When you are in a high-pressure situation, you want someone who is poised and who can get the job done, and she’s proved that time in and time out.”
The 7 th seeded Morristown Colonials were the aggressor the entire game, firing multiple shots on goal.
The opening goal of the game came from Briana Carmel, her 1 st goal of the season, giving Morristown a 1-0 lead. Morgan Mastracchio played a perfect pass across the face of goal to Carmel. Just 5 minutes later, Molly Gorman equalized for Montville, on their first shot of the game.
The game went to halftime all tied up at 1 apiece.
Morristown jumped out of the gates in the 2 nd half, and Hoftijizer put the Colonials ahead 7 minutes after halftime. That lead was short lived once again as Kylie Warsaw smacked home a rebound for a 2-2 tie.
Morristown unleashed 23 shots on Samantha Conrad, who made 11 saves and played fantastic. With the win, Morristown won their 2 nd straight and improved to 5-6 on the year, while clinching a berth in the quarterfinals.
“It hasn’t always been easy for us,” said DiBiasse. “Our grit, determination and our want to win this game really showed today.”
