MORRISTOWN, NJ – Thousands of residents and patrons braved the subfreezing temperatures on Saturday afternoon to turn out for Morris County’s 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade as they were treated to a variety of entertainment throughout the day.

“We march for our Irish heritage and I learned the importance of this parade in my first year as Mayor when we unfortunately had to cancel due to the tail end of a Nor’easter,” Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty, a second generation Irishman said during the pre-parade festivities. “I think it’s the greatest parade in the State of New Jersey and we’re going to have a lot of fun today.”

The parade is always a boon for business owners in the downtown district.

“It’s one of the busiest days of the year for us, we’re one of the big Irish bars here in town,” said Brian Fitzpatrick, co-owner of Grasshopper Off the Green, who lived in Kildare, Ireland when he was younger. “Today is a little more of a party atmosphere and it’s a fun day. The bartenders love it.”

Despite the frigid temperatures, everyone seemed to make the best of the day.

This upcoming Friday, of course, is St. Patrick’s Day, the widely-celebrated Irish holiday. The town will be bustling then, too.
