BELMAR, NJ — An artisan shop that crafts specialty doughnuts with all sorts of fillings and toppings has made its way to downtown Belmar.
Main Street Donuts celebrated its grand opening on February 10, where Mayor Matthew Doherty and members of the Belmar Business Partnership officially welcomed owners Paula Giunta and Joe Rizzuto to the borough’s central shopping district.
Family members, friends and customers filled the quaint shop at 705 Main Street, where the ring-shaped confections are made fresh to order “right before your eyes.” Customers can select from more than 50 glazes, icings, creams, jellies and other toppings to make every doughnut their own. Or they can choose from the shop’s enticing blackboard specials, such as Crunchy Monkey, Smore Than Your Need and Sweet Pig (Hint: It includes bacon).
And of course, for the less adventurous, doughnuts can be served up the old-fashioned way — a plain vanilla or chocolate treat, with a drizzle of glaze or a dash of powdered sugar.
Giunta and Rizzuto are in-laws brought together by their passion for baking and desire to take doughnut making to the next level of creativity and flair. And they have the experience to do just that. With a background in catering and event planning, Giunta is known for paying attention to every detail in delighting her customers. A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, Rizzuto possesses the talent for being on the cutting edge of emerging food trends.
Together, they believe that Main Street Donuts will become the destination for “handcrafted, artisanal” donuts that dare to be different and are just as delicious.
